# IATF 16949 Certified Aluminum Foundry China: Buyer Evidence Guide

An IATF 16949 certificate is an important supplier-qualification signal, but it is not enough by itself. Buyers still need to verify certificate scope, project fit, PPAP expectations, traceability records, inspection evidence, and corrective-action workflow before awarding an aluminum casting program.

This guide is for procurement teams, SQE reviewers, and automotive or industrial buyers evaluating an IATF 16949 certified aluminum foundry in China.

Verify the certificate first

Ask for the current certificate and check:

  • certification body
  • issue date and expiry date
  • company name and site address
  • scope of activities
  • IATF USI or other verification details where applicable
  • whether the site being quoted is the certified site

Do not assume that a group certificate covers every workshop, subcontracted process, or supplier affiliate.

Match the quality system to your part

IATF 16949 helps structure automotive quality systems, but the buyer must still define part-specific requirements. A pressure-related valve body, pump housing, gearbox housing, or EV motor housing may need different inspection records and approval steps.

Ask the supplier to clarify:

  • APQP or launch-planning approach
  • PPAP level or customer-specific submission needs
  • control plan and special characteristics
  • material certificate and heat-treatment records
  • CMM report scope and datum strategy
  • leak-test, X-ray, or functional inspection requirements if relevant
  • traceability format for production lots

Ask for evidence, not slogans

Useful supplier evidence can include sample reports, blank report templates, calibration workflow, material-traceability examples, and non-confidential process-control examples. The buyer should request recent project-specific data under NDA when real performance evidence is needed.

Avoid relying on broad claims about universal quality, universal savings, fixed recovery timing, or unnamed customer results.

Corrective action depends on scope

For quality issues, a credible supplier should explain containment, root-cause analysis, corrective action, verification, and communication flow. Timing depends on defect type, inventory status, transit stage, buyer approval requirements, and the quality agreement. It should not be treated as a universal fixed-hour promise.

RFQ evidence checklist

Before awarding a program, prepare or request:

Evidence itemWhy it matters
Current certificateConfirms site and scope
Control plan outlineShows process-control thinking
CMM report sampleConfirms dimensional evidence format
Material certificate sampleSupports traceability and alloy control
Leak-test or NDT scopeNeeded for pressure-sensitive parts
PPAP planAligns buyer approval and supplier deliverables
Corrective-action templateShows problem-solving workflow
Packaging and traceability planReduces shipment and lot-control risk

Bohua RFQ path

Bohua can review IATF-oriented aluminum casting RFQs for certificate verification, PPAP/FAI-style scope, CMM records, traceability, and inspection planning. Start with the certifications page, quality control overview, or send a quote-ready package through the formal RFQ form.

FAQ

Does IATF 16949 ensure that every casting will pass?

No. It defines quality-system requirements and audit expectations. Part approval still depends on the drawing, process route, control plan, inspection records, and buyer acceptance criteria.

Is PPAP required for every aluminum casting?

Not always. Automotive programs often require PPAP, while industrial programs may use FAI, CMM reports, material certificates, or buyer-specific approval packages.

What should a buyer ask beyond the certificate?

Ask for the control plan approach, sample report format, traceability workflow, inspection scope, corrective-action method, and how the supplier handles customer-specific requirements.
